The Vanilla Plum Edit
Best Treatment for Dry Skin
Before buying another moisturizer, I think it helps to figure out whether your skin is dry, dehydrated, sensitized, or dealing with a damaged skin barrier.
My skin used to be dehydrated, sensitized, reactive, and barrier compromised.
The biggest breakthrough wasn’t finding a better moisturizer. It was understanding what my skin actually needed.
Dry Skin vs Dehydrated Skin
Dry Skin
Dry skin lacks oil. It often feels rough, flaky, uncomfortable, or under-nourished.
Dehydrated Skin
Dehydrated skin lacks water. It can feel tight, dull, crepey, or irritated even when you’re using rich products.
My Treatment Ranking
Where I start if skin feels reactive, flaky, irritated, or compromised.
Especially if the skin feels tight, dull, crepey, or thirsty.
3. Nanocurrent
A favorite supportive treatment once my barrier is healthy.
Omega-3 foods, collagen, protein, creatine, and hydration.
My skin improved most when I stopped doing too much.
The Short Answer
If I were starting over, I would repair my barrier first, learn the difference between hydration and moisture, then carefully add supportive treatments like nanocurrent. My skin improved dramatically when I simplified my routine and gave it time to recover.
What Helped My Skin Most
For a period of time I stripped my routine back dramatically.
My skin needed roughly three months of consistency before it felt balanced enough to tolerate stronger active ingredients again. If your skin is dry (lacks oil), consider castor oil mixed with a couple drops of glycerin for hydration.
I also concentrated on electrolyte balance and overall minerals (start with isotonic if you’re imbalanced and then switch to hypertonic) internally.
My Favorite ZIIP App Treatments for Dry Skin
Skin Barrier
One of my favorite ZIIP app treatments when my skin feels stressed, compromised, or in need of support.
Collagen Renewal
A great option when I’m trying to support skin quality while keeping my overall routine relatively gentle.
Gel Selection Matters
When my skin feels dry or compromised, I tend to reach for Silver Gel. Crystal and Gold can also have a place depending on what other concerns I’m addressing while pausing more aggressive treatments.
