The Vanilla Plum Edit
Best Treatment for Rosacea & Facial Redness
The biggest thing that helped my redness wasn’t finding another skincare product. It was finally giving my skin permission to recover.
I spent years trying to fix my skin.
Looking back, I think I was constantly interrupting my skin’s ability to heal.
The biggest breakthrough came when I stopped chasing products and focused on rebuilding my skin barrier instead.
My Treatment Ranking
π₯ My Rosacea Reset
If my rosacea came back tomorrow, I’d stop almost everything for 4β8 weeks and focus on rebuilding my skin barrier. For me that meant Vaseline only and patience.
π₯ Red Light Therapy
Once my skin no longer felt reactive, I slowly added red light therapy back into my routine a few times per week before applying my nightly Vaseline.
π₯ Gentle, pH-Balanced Skincare
Only after my skin barrier recovered did I begin adding back simple, pH-balanced products like Prequel and Arcona.
4οΈβ£ Reintroduce Actives Slowly
Just like an elimination diet, I introduced products one at a time. If something irritated my skin, I backed off immediately. I also paid attention to how I reacted to fragrance, etc.
5οΈβ£ Blue Light (Sometimes)
If redness comes with acne-like bumps, blue light may be worth discussing with your dermatologist. For my skin, rebuilding my barrier and then using red light became the winning combination.
The Short Answer
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t buy another serum. I’d spend the next month rebuilding my skin barrier first. Only after my skin stopped feeling reactive would I slowly introduce red light therapy, followed by a few gentle, pH-balanced products.
My Rosacea Reset
If my rosacea returned tomorrow, this is exactly what I’d do.
- Stop all unnecessary skincare.
- Use Vaseline as my primary moisturizer.
- Wait 4β8 weeks without chasing new products.
- Once my skin stopped feeling reactive, add red light therapy two to three times per week.
- Only then begin adding simple, pH-balanced skincare back into my routine.
This isn’t medical adviceβit’s simply the approach that finally allowed my skin barrier to recover after years of trial and error.
How I Knew My Skin Was Healing
- Products stopped burning.
- The constant redness became less intense.
- My skin felt stronger instead of fragile.
- I could slowly tolerate active ingredients again.
- Flare-ups became much less frequent.
A Note About Red Light vs Blue Light
Not all rosacea looks the same.
For my skin, rebuilding my barrier first and then introducing red light therapy worked extremely well.
If your redness also includes acne-like bumps or pustules, blue light may be worth discussing with your dermatologist because some research suggests it may help certain forms of rosacea. The key is figuring out which type of redness you’re actually dealing with instead of assuming every case should be treated the same way.
